Ein vermeintlicher Master of S8board antwortet

In den letzten Tagen habe ich viel Zeit mit Tony Hawks verbracht. Ich war letzten Sonntag in einem anglikanischen Gottesdienst in der Gemeinde Holy Trinity Brussels. Wie ich es von zu Hause aus der Adventszeit kenne, gab es da einen Basar — dieser noch wenig weihnachtlich. Es gab einen Buchstand, an dem ich mir als Ersatz für Cecilias Aherns "Für immer vielleicht" einen anderen Irland-Roman holte. Roman? Wohl eher eine Dokumentation: Tony Hawks fantastische Reise mit einem Kühlschrank, durch Irland, als Anhalter. "Round Irland with a fridge" und "Over 250.000 copies sold" steht da drauf, und die Tatsache, dass Tausende anderer sich das Buch auch in den Stubenschrank stellen wollten, war mir Kaufargument genug. Auch weil mir die Sache irgendwie bekannt vorkam.

Und bestimmt hatte ich auch schon von der Kühlschrankreise gehört oder die deutsche Fassung des Buches gesehen, die — wie er mir bestätigte — mein Bruder im Schrank hat. Ganz bestimmt aber hatte ich schon den Namen des Autors gehört, wenn auch mit einem S weniger. Tony Hawk, Großmeister des Skateboardings, der, dem nachgesagt wird, als erster mit seinem Brett in zweieinhalbfacher Drehung über einer Skateranlage geflogen zu sein, den 900er vollziehend. Und dann gab's Computerspiele, die er vermarktete, und deren Namen hörte ich, und deswegen kannte ich ihn wohl.

Diese Zufallsbekanntschaft trug wohl ihr Scherflein dazu bei, dass ich mir das Kühlschrankirlandreisebuch kaufte. Ob der Autor, Tony Hawks, Tony Hawk einst dafür dankte, dass seine Prominenz ihm einige Buchkäufer zuspielte, die sein Buch kauften in der Annahme ein unkonventionelles Stück mit Skateboardanleitungen in der Hand zu halten? Ich glaube nicht. Auch wenn Tony Hawks sehr geduldig mit dem irrtümlich bei ihm auflaufenden Fan-Volk umgeht, das eigentlich zu einem amerikanischen Sportler und nicht zu einem britischen Komiker wollte:

Quite hard. Especially since around 750 of them said 'no' at first. I needed to be very persuasive.
